Mail ballots for Deer River Township have been sent, and voters should begin receiving them soon. The following information is provided to explain the Optional Plan B question appearing on the November ballot.

The Township clerk and treasurer are currently elected by Township voters. These offices are responsible for township records, elections, finances, reporting, and other legal requirements.

A YES vote means the Town Board will appoint the clerk and treasurer. The Board would be responsible for selecting the individuals who serve in these positions based on their qualifications, experience, and ability to perform the required duties.

A NO vote means the clerk and treasurer will continue to be elected by Township voters.

Optional Plan B does not combine the clerk and treasurer offices. It changes only how the individuals serving in those offices are selected.

This information is provided solely to explain the effect of each voting option. Please carefully review your ballot and follow the enclosed instructions for completing and returning it.
